There are basically no prerequisites for ITIL Foundations. Actually ITIL Foundations certification is in itself a prerequisite for other level of ITIL certifications. The primary reason for taking this certification is to have basic mandatory understanding of ITIL terminologies and ITIL as a whole. So, the basic prerequisite for this ITIL Foundations certification is the understanding of ITIL keywords and terminology. After gaining enough information and knowledge regarding the subject you have to give an examination and pass the examination for that matter. That is all required for ITIL Foundations Certifications.

The ITIL Foundation certification is an entry-level qualification that gives you a general awareness about the key elements, concepts and terminologies of ITIL Service Lifecycle. There is no specific prerequisite for this certification level. It is best suited for individuals who are looking to gain a basic understanding of the framework. It is also recommended for IT professionals who work with organizations that have adopted ITIL and want to start making a contribution.

ITIL Continual Service Improvement Course – Exam Format

There is no pre-requisite for sitting the ITIL Continual Service Improvement exam. The ITIL Continual Service Improvement exam is:

  Closed book exam (Can be taken online or paper base format)

  40 Multiple choice question

  Required pass mark of 65% (26 out of 40)

  1 hour duration

Does this course include the ITIL Foundations Exam?

Yes. The exam will be administered onsite on the final day of the course.

Do I need a background in IT in order to take this course?

No.  Some familiarity with IT is helpful, but not required.  The instructor will explain the concepts in real world terms, not (just) technical terms.  In fact, many of our students are Project Managers who need to gain a “management level” understanding of IT without having a technical background.

What is the difference between ITIL v3 and ITIL 2011?

ITIL 2011 is the most current iteration of the ITIL core publications.  The ITIL books replaced ITIL v3, originallly published in 2007. For this reason, the two versions are sometimes referred to as “ITILv3:2007” and “ITIL v3:2011”, respectively.  The ITIL 2011 books did not introduce any NEW content, but instead improved on the existing content (more consistency across the library, better examples, additional process flows and diagrams).  ITIL 2011 is the only version of the ITIL Foundations Exam that is currently available.

I have an ITIL v2 Foundations certification. How do I update my certification to the current version?

The ITIL v2 certifications expired at the end of 2010, so you would need to take the ITIL 2011 Foundations exam.

I have an ITIL v3 Foundations certification from the 2007 edition. Do I need to update my certification to the current version?

No.  ITIL v3 certifications from both the 2007 and 2011 editions are functionally the same, and do not need to be updated
